Project #1 (Now Including Final Artist Statement #1)

Updated: Feb 26, 2023

My final project had gone through many stages in its creation. First as mentioned in my brainstorm blog I used random generators to generate a few words then I put those word to fill in a poem generator. Once that was complete and the poem was generated, I used a segment of the poem and inserted it into Dalle 2. After a few different generated outcomes, I enjoyed this odd deep see creature figure and decided to generate a series of these creatures. They reminded me of these sorts of creatures that kids would imagine within the deep ocean. I used that to my advantage and decided to glitch them out as if they didn't necessarily exist although they take on some animalistic features that you would possibly see on existing species. I enjoyed the idea behind it, but I wanted to mix in a different component in order to contrast it. So, I decided to combine in the element of Data moshing. Initially I created a data mosh of animated versions of the glitched photos, but it seemed too repetitive. I then decided to continue the kid imagining scenario and make kid-like doodles mash up with live video from an aquarium visit which leads many kids that typically visit an aquarium to imagine deep sea life. Although they are very different and randomized concepts at work, they slowly delve into the same theme which can be quite fascinating. I really enjoyed the randomness and the data moshing aspect of this project and I can't wait to keep playing with the different programs applied in class.
